Throughout the Spring break and when students return, there will be many changes happening at the site where the Colonial Motel is located at 2615 E. 46th Ave. As part of the Central 70 Project, construction crews will begin the demolition process for the Colonial Manor Motel on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
Crews will begin with demolition of the garage and shed on the north end of the motel property and then move to the motel’s north building and around to the west and south buildings. Crews will use heavy equipment, such as an excavator, to tear down the buildings and then the rubble will be trucked away to proper disposal sites. The concrete and steel will be recycled. All required environmental precautions will be taken during the demolition and the removal process. Crews will use a water truck throughout the process to manage dust. Once the demolition is complete, (around the middle of April) new soil will be brought in and the area will be stabilized until further construction on the site begins.
Work will happen Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and on the weekends between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. if necessary, for at least four weeks. During this construction activity, look for additional truck traffic on Elizabeth Street and Thompson Court near 46th Avenue. This work is weather dependent and activities will be limited on windy days. During school days, demolition vehicles and dump trucks will limit their use of streets to after drop-off and before pick-up, approximately 8:30-2:30 pm to avoid impact on school traffic.
Please be aware, that the site will be an active construction zone and access will not be permitted at any time. The project team and school will continue to take necessary precautions to ensure this is a safe operation.
We are excited about the new, temporary playground that will be installed at our school this coming summer. The playground will be situated on Elizabeth St. in front of our main entrance. The new playground will incorporate some of our existing play structures and many new structures and features, including some learning landscapes, natural areas, and a new community garden. Staff and visitor parking will be relocated to 47th Ave. and bus zones will move to 46th Ave. This work is set to begin at the end of this school year and will be completed before students return in August. Our students will be excited to see a new, beautiful playground that will match more closely to all the new renovations that have already happened inside of our school building.
We will display the playground plan in our main lobby, with additional plans that show more details. We hope that you will stop by and take a look at the exciting new changes that will be happening on the outside of our school.
