Letter on DPS Grading Policy for Remote Learning

Dear Swansea families,

I hope this letter finds you all happy, healthy, safe and engaging in week three for home learning. We are very happy to have had so many students engaged in their online learning! The first few weeks of Remote Learning we prioritized to make sure we have contact with all students and ensuring students have everything they need to learn remotely.  I want to give a big thanks to the Swansea staff who have worked diligently to deliver and fix technology, train parents on the phone to get learning going, and helped families get signed up for Internet Essentials. I’m proud of the engagement of the students, families and staff so far.

I wanted to provide an update that DPS has made to the grading policy:

  • Instead of credit/no credit, we will provide descriptive feedback on student with descriptive feedback throughout the grading period if a student has not initially demonstrated understanding of the critical learning.
  • Instead of numerical or letter grades, report cards will have written feedback about how a student has or has not demonstrated understanding of the critical learning for the grading period and how prepared they are for the next grade level.
  • Teachers will communicate with students and parents via Seesaw and Google Classroom with descriptive feedback on assignments to indicate how a student has/has not demonstrated understanding of the critical learning for the assignment.
  • Parents with questions regarding their child’s assignments and/or progress in learning can reach out to their teacher during their office hours or message them via Seesaw.
